"Hey Precious, where do you see yourself in the next five years?" Someone asked. This question seems simple but most times it’s difficult to answer. What first popped in my mind was a picture of myself working with a community of young people - high school graduates to be specific. This is my dream.
Your dream is something that you have envisioned yourself doing in the future; something you would love to do.
In my last post on finding you, I talked about goals. Goals and dreams work together. After seeing, dreaming or thinking goals help you actualize them.
Dreams are series of goals in a person’s mind. They come in form of thoughts and will remain mere imaginations or illusions if they put into practice.
In essence, when you dream without setting goals they will definitely result in nothing.
In your journey to finding yourself, you must have a vision. Vision is the ability to think or plan the future with great imagination. This gives you focus in becoming the person of your dream; less drama, accomplishments, impact, abundance and the life you want.
When you know who you are or who you want to become (vision), you will know what to do (goals).
A dream can result from reading a book, taking a new hobby, undergoing a course or learning a new skill. Any of these can spark the desire in you to achieve something or realize something about yourself.
One thing you must have is the self-confidence to actualize your vision. This is the measurement of your belief in your abilities.
Do you believe you can become what you have in mind to be?
One of my role models, Marsai Martin a 16 year old actress and one of Hollywood youngest producers was often asked when she was little, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Marsai’s reply was "A legend."
This girl was bold as little as she was to say that and she believed and still believes in herself. Marsai is already a legend. She’s a heroine.
You see, it's one thing to dream and set goals and it's another thing to actually take steps and be determined in reaching each of your set goals.
Never give up in your path to achieving your dreams. Yunno obstacles will come around but you have to overcome them, remember the end will be great.
